You can order a selection of different tapas that you eat as a full main meal. Tapas can be found in local Barcelona bars and also restaurants. A highly recommended free nighttime visitor attraction is the Magic Fountain of Montjuic which is a light, music and water fountain extravaganza. Another popular free visitor attraction is Park Guell by Antoni Gaudi. Originally planned as a housing estate that failed because of its very radical design. Today it is a much visited park and World Heritage monument. The stunning mosaics were made from recycled ceramics. If you are traveling to the park by Metro you can get off at Vallcarca and then use the escalators to almost reach the top of Park Guell and then walk down through the park. You can see more of Antoni Gaudi work at the striking La Sagrada Familia. The large Roman Catholic basilica is still under construction and it is hoped that La Sagrada Familia can by finished by 2026 for the 100th anniversary of Gaudi's death (1926). Construction for the building started in 1882. Eight spires of a projected twelve have been completed. Visit La Sagrada Familia by taking Metro Line 2 or 5 to Sagrada Família. It's easy to get around Barcelona using a comprehensive public transport system that includes a metro, two tram networks, a bus network and several funiculars and aerial cable cars. |
