About Adelaide Australia

Adelaide is the capital of South Australia and home to more than a million people, making it the fifth largest city Australia.

Adelaide has a Mediterranean climate, where most of the rain falls in the winter months, and is the driest of the Australian capital cities.

Elegant Adelaide offers fine food, great wine, a sense of history and a large slice of the good life. There are more restaurants in Adelaide per head of population than anywhere else in Australia.

Offices, cafes and designer boutiques occupy many of Adelaides gracious Victorian and Edwardian buildings, complete with verandas and Adelaide lace ironwork. Adelaide dates back to 1836 when it was laid-out in a grid pattern by Colonel Light, interspersed with Squares and surrounded by a numerous parks and reserves known as the Park Lands. Galleries and museums are to be found along North Terrace and Rundle Street and the Rundle Mall in central Adelaide is lined with shops, cafes, bars and restaurants.

Adelaide is known as the Festival City with festivals and cultural delights dotted throughout the year and the Adelaide Festival of Arts and the Festival Fringe every second year.

Adelaide Hills, just 20 minutes from Adelaide City centre, is renowned for great food, fine wines, world-class attractions, quality accommodation and stunning scenery.

Glenelg, to the west of Adelaide offers a selection of superb sandy beaches and is Adelaide's most popular beach destination with hundreds of shops and sidewalk cafés.

Adelaide offers a relaxed yet sophisticated city environment for residents and visitors alike and is the gateway to the many and varied attractions to be found in South Australia. Adelaide has three internationally recognised universities that offer a rich tradition of excellence in education and research. Adelaide is known as the wine capital of Australia and 6 of the top 10 Australian wines being made within a few hours drive of the City.

Adelaides economy is primarily based around manufacturing, defence technology and research, commodity export and corresponding service industries.

Hotel Accommodation Reviews

Frogmore Apartments West Beach Adelaide Review
Adelaide, Australia

4 / 5 Star Rating
The owners operate two apartments - Esplanade Apartments with sea views and Frogmore Apartments, close by but with no views. We booked for the Esplanade Apartments but were accommodated at Frogmore. A good choice as it turned out but the owners did not make the change in venue clear to us prior to confirmation of our booking. There is no indication from the business web site that there is another apartment complex. Also, the web site has no provision for a secure booking - we had to phone with credit card details. The Frogmore apartment was upstairs, spacious, clean, comfortable, with two bedrooms, a lounge, a kitchen, and a bathroom with shower, basin and toilet. The kitchen was fully self-contained. There were two queen beds and a single, all with clean sheets. The lounge had an air conditioner. There was a communal washing machine, coin operated, and outside drying lines. Other features were a swimming pool (small) and barbecue area and the security gates locked from 10 pm to 7 am. The location is ideal (close to city centre and airport), the owners were cheerful and friendly, and we would stay there again.

Coastview Motor Inn Review
Adelaide, Australia

3 / 5 Star Rating
Spacious, clean upstairs unit with kitchen area, queen bed and single bed, ensuite bathroom with shower and toilet. Other features were a splendid view of the sea and coastline, air-conditioning, wide screen television. No provision for secure booking from the business web site and had to telephone for reservations and credit card deposit. Our daughter stayed for two nights. Her tariff was quoted verbally as $10 per night but we were billed $15 per night, no debate permitted. We would stay there again but we would get the tariff conditions in writing, first.
